On Tuesday November 29, 2016 myself along with 7 of the 10 other co-authors were in attendance with tables set up ready to share stories that we unapologetically tell in our individual chapters that were compiled to make up “No More Chains.”
Our journeys of writing these chapters began early in the year, in February 2016 when the opportunity presented itself to get involved in this project that is not only a book anthology, but a Documentary film. For the last several months we have gotten together to meet for photo shoots and to uplift and encourage each other during the pre-sale of the book. And best believe we were all every anxious and excited to get our hands on our books and for others to be blessed by our stories.
Around 7:00pm, after we all made our way out of the rain, the doors to the Blackburn Center Ballroom on the campus of Howard University were open and our guests were welcomed into the room where they greeted the 8 of us who were in attendance at our tables, signing and selling our books.
Through the night we didn’t just sit in the back of the room looking pretty, we had the opportunity to speak to the audience about ourselves and our chapters while indulging in sweet punch and sweet treats at the candy bar. We also had the opportunity to see our documentary trailer and share it with everyone in attendance for the first time along with the official No More Chains theme song, that was performed live by singer, Sydney Murray.
All and all, it was a night of fun, great music by DJ DNS, and it was full of inspiration for everyone.
